BPS Announces March/April 2024 BPS Certification and Recertification Examination Results

Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), the premier post-licensure certification organization serving the pharmacy profession, announces the results of the March/April 2024 certification and recertification examinations administered via continuous testing.

In this administration window, 1,544 out of 2,458 examinees were successful in the specialty examinations offered in Ambulatory Care Pharmacy (BCACP, Emergency Medicine Pharmacy (BCEMP), Geriatric Pharmacy (BCGP), Infectious Diseases Pharmacy (BCIDP), Pharmacotherapy (BCPS), Compounded Sterile Preparation Pharmacy (BCSCP), and Solid Organ Transplantation Pharmacy (BCTXP).

Results for Cardiology Pharmacy (BCCP), Critical Care Pharmacy (BCCCP), (Nuclear Pharmacy) BCNP, Nutrition Support Pharmacy (BCNSP), Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP), Psychiatric Pharmacy (BCPP), and Pediatric Pharmacy (BCPPS) examinations administered through the continuously available modality will be available in January 2025.

“We congratulate the 1,469 pharmacists who will be joining the global community of board-certified pharmacists and the 75 pharmacists who successfully recertified their credential by examination. The growth of board certification underscores pharmacists’ vital role across diverse practice environments and we anticipate these specialists will utilize their expertise to enhance patient care,” said BPS Executive Director, William M. Ellis, MS, RPh, ICE-CCP.

Recertification examinations were not offered in the following specialties, as the initial cohort of certificants have not yet reached year 7 in their certification cycle: cardiology pharmacy (BCCP), compounded sterile preparations pharmacy (BCSCP), infectious diseases pharmacy (BCIDP ), solid organ transplantation pharmacy (BCTXP), and emergency medicine pharmacy (BCEMP). Recertification examinations will begin in 2025 for BCCP and BCIDP, 2026 for BCSCP, 2028 for BCTXP, and 2030 for BCEMP.

The results for each examination program are provided below and are organized by the breakdown of total exam candidates (inclusive of first-time and repeat attempts) followed by first-time attempt candidates.

About the Board of Pharmacy Specialties

The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of interprofessional healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally. Board certification is a recognized credential for determining which pharmacists are qualified to contribute at advanced practice levels given the rigorous standards mandated by BPS board certification and recertification.
