Annual Certification Maintenance Fees

To maintain your BPS Board Certification and remain in good standing, the payment of an Annual Certification Maintenance Fee is required for all BPS board certified pharmacists. The annual maintenance fee is currently $125 USD.

The mission of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties is to improve patient care by promoting the recognition and value of specialized training, knowledge, and skills in pharmacy and specialty board certification of pharmacists. BPS works diligently to educate pharmacists, other health professionals, and the public about specialty certification and the value it brings.

The annual certification maintenance fee supports the BPS mission by funding the ongoing work of BPS on behalf of its certified specialists:

  • Maintenance of current, credible certification examinations
  • Maintenance of recertification examinations and related processes
  • Research on the impact and value of certification
  • Exploring new specialty certifications.

A notice for the annual fee will be sent via email to all certificants in May of each year. Payment is due July 1.

Please note that pharmacists holding more than one BPS certification are assessed only one annual fee, and certificants are not required to pay the annual fee in their recertification year.

Multi-certified pharmacists delisting a credential in a recertification year are required to pay the annual certification maintenance fee for the remaining active credential(s). Effective January 1, 2025, multi-certified pharmacists in a recertification year who don’t complete recertification requirements for a specialty they decide not to renew are required to pay the annual certification maintenance fee for the remaining active credential(s).

Failure to pay the annual fee by July 1 results in a change from “active” to “activity pending” certification status, which will display on the public directory, Find a Board Certified Pharmacist. Remittance of the annual maintenance fee will result in return to “active” status.

A $5 USD late fee will be applied each year the fee remains unpaid. Failure to pay the fees may result in suspension of the certification.

Upon applying for recertification or new specialty certification, all outstanding fees must be paid.

To pay your annual certification maintenance fee, please log into your MyBPS account.

All fees are subject to change at the sole discretion of the Board. For a full list of fees, review the BPS Candidate’s Guide or Recertification Guide.
