Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) announces applications for the 2026-2028 BPS Research Seed Grants are open and any pharmacist or investigator interested in conducting research related to the impact of BPS Board Certification is encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted through Friday, July 31, 2026, with recipients announced in late 2026.

Supporting this type of work is critical to demonstrating the impact of certification and to ensure certification remains relevant, credible, and meaningful to patients and the profession.” said Ellie LaNou, BPS Director of Professional Affairs.

Two funding opportunities of up to $5,000 each are available for research projects highlighting the impact of pharmacist board certification on:
- Patient outcomes (e.g., adherence, patient-reported outcomes, surrogate outcomes);
- Healthcare systems (e.g., medication safety, drug-related problems, admissions/readmissions, emergency department visits, institutional credentialing and privileging);
- Interprofessional collaboration (e.g., recognition, perception, increased efficiency in providing care); and/or,
- Pharmacist employment, professional development, and/or wellbeing (e.g., job satisfaction, retention, career advancement).
Preference may be given to proposals that align with the recommendations in A Roadmap for Studying the Impact of Pharmacist Board Certification on Patient Outcomes: feasibility, applicability, and methodological considerations.
Any U.S.-based pharmacist or investigator is eligible to apply. Pharmacists or investigators outside of the U.S. are eligible for grant funding through the BPS/FIP Foundation grant, which accepts applications annually from March through April.

The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of interprofessional healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally. Board certification is a recognized credential for determining which pharmacists are qualified to contribute at advanced practice levels given the rigorous standards mandated by BPS board certification and recertification.
