Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is pleased to announce the inaugural Pharmacy Informatics Specialty Council with appointments beginning April 1, 2026. The BPS Board of Directors approved Pharmacy Informatics as the 16th specialty certification in December 2025. The BPS Pharmacy Informatics Specialty Council roster is here.

The strong interest in this specialty reflects the growing importance of pharmacy informatics and the meaningful role informatics pharmacists play in improving medication use, supporting data-informed decision-making, and advancing patient care,” said Anita Siu, PharmD, BCPPS, Chair of the BPS Board of Directors.
A BPS Specialty Councils serves the following purposes:
- To develop standards and eligibility requirements for board certification in the specialty area for approval by the BPS Board of Directors;
- To develop examinations and set the passing standard for initial and continuing certification of pharmacist specialists; and
- To approve and review professional development programs for recertification of pharmacist specialists.

About the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally. Board certification is a recognized credential for determining which pharmacists are qualified to contribute at advanced practice levels given the rigorous standards mandated by BPS board certification and recertification. BPS has currently issued more than 60,800 certifications held by pharmacists across 15 specialties.
