Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) announces open applications for subject matter experts in pharmacogenomics to participate in a job analysis (also known as a role delineation study), which will take place in the second half of 2024. Applications can be submitted here and are due by Friday, June 14, 2024.
The outcomes of the job analysis will be used to help determine whether BPS should consider pursuing pharmacogenomics as a specialty practice area. If the findings of the job analysis indicate establishing pharmacogenomics as a specialty practice area, BPS will issue a profession-wide call for a petition to formally recognize pharmacogenomics and develop a certification assessment.
Job Analysis Panelist Responsibilities
From among the applicants, 15 to 20 subject matter experts in pharmacogenomics will be selected to form a job analysis panel. Panelists will participate in approximately 15 to 20 hours of focus group discussion over 4 to 6 months via web conference across three or four virtual sessions.
The job analysis meetings will be facilitated by BPS psychometric staff. Meeting dates and times will be selected by BPS psychometric staff in consultation of the availability of the panelists.
Job analysis panelists are responsible for:
- Establishing the scope of the pharmacogenomics specialty practice area
- Identifying the tasks performed by practitioners in pharmacogenomics
- Identifying the competencies required by practitioners in pharmacogenomics
- Evaluating the feasibility of a specialty certification in pharmacogenomics
