Washington D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) issues a call for applications for Board-Certified Pain Management Pharmacists (BCPMP) to serve on the BPS Pain Management Pharmacy Specialty Council for a term starting in February 2026. A maximum of four BCPMP positions are available.
Prior to submitting an application, carefully review and consider the qualifications, position duties, responsibilities, and required time commitments outlined in the Call for Applications Information Booklet and all applicable BPS policies (found on this webpage).
As the newest specialty area recognized by BPS, the BPS Pain Management Pharmacy Specialty Council will undergo a transition period during which pharmacists who do not hold the BCPMP credential, but who are subject matter experts, will rotate off the council and newly certified BCPMPs will replace them.
BPS Specialty Councils are responsible for:
- Developing standards and requirements for certification and recertification of pharmacists in the specialty area for approval by the BPS Board of Directors;
- Participating in the examination development process by reviewing and approving examination items and assembled forms of the certification examination; and
- Reviewing and approving professional development programs for the recertification of pharmacist specialists.

BPS must receive all the following items NO LATER THAN Friday, December 12, 2025 by 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

Desired Qualifications
The expertise, experience, and practice setting of each applicant are carefully considered to ensure balanced representation within the specialty council. While the specific needs of the council vary from year to year, applicants from all backgrounds, including those with education, training, or practice experience outside of the United States, are encouraged to apply.
The inaugural Pain Management Pharmacy Specialty Council identified areas of need, which are outlined below. While these needs highlight priority areas, they are not intended to discourage applications from individuals with different areas of expertise. BPS values diverse perspectives and welcomes all qualified individuals to apply.

- Subspecialty: Geriatrics Patient Population, Pediatric Patient Population, Psychiatric/Mental health

About the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally.
