Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is now accepting nominations for the 2027 BPS Awards Program. Nominations must be submitted by Monday, August 24, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
(Nomination Deadline Extended to September 9, 2026)
The BPS Awards Program recognizes individuals and organizations making meaningful contributions to the advancement of BPS Board Certification and the role of board-certified pharmacists in improving pharmacy practice and patient care.
The three award categories are:
- BPS Rising Star Award: Recognizes early-career pharmacists who completed their terminal pharmacy training or degree within the past seven years and have made outstanding contributions to advancing BPS Board Certification. Self-nominations are not accepted.
- BPS Weaver Penna Award: Recognizes individuals who have made exceptional lifetime voluntary contributions to advancing BPS Board Certification. Self-nominations are not accepted.
- BPS Beacon Award: Recognizes national and local patient care organizations that have made outstanding voluntary contributions to advancing BPS Board Certification for pharmacists. Self-nominations are accepted.
“Through the BPS Awards Program, we recognize pharmacists and healthcare organizations that exemplify excellence and dedication in advancing the value of board certification,” said Angela Bingham, PharmD, BCPS, BCNSP, BCCCP, FASPEN, FCCP, FASHP, FCCM, Chair of the BPS Awards Committee. “We encourage nominations from colleagues, collaborators, and partners across healthcare for individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate how board certification strengthens pharmacy practice and supports high-quality patient care.”

- Rising Star and Weaver Penna Awards: The nominator must describe how the nominee meets the award criteria in 500 words or fewer. Nominations must also include one to two letters of recommendation and the nominee’s current résumé or CV.
- Beacon Award: The nomination must include a nominator letter describing how the organization meets the award criteria in 500 words or fewer. Nominations must also include one to three letters of recommendation and a brief organization description.
Past nominees who were not selected may be resubmitted for consideration with appropriate updates. Award selections are made by the BPS Board of Directors following a review of complete nominations. Award recipients will be announced in January 2027.
Each award will be presented at a meeting or venue deemed suitable by the BPS Board of Directors and the award recipient. Travel expenses will be covered according to current BPS travel policies, as deemed appropriate.

About the Board of Pharmacy Specialties
The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of interprofessional healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally.
