BPS Announces Board of Directors Officers and New Members for 2024
Washington, D.C. – The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) is pleased to announce the 2024 BPS Board of Directors officers and newly appointed members. BPS welcomes Cyrine-Eliana Haidar as 2024 BPS Chair, Gary C. Yee as 2024 BPS Chair-Elect, and Ruth E. Nemire as 2024 BPS Immediate Past Chair. BPS also welcomes Angela Bingham and Brian Erstad to the BPS Board of Directors (the board) for the term beginning January 1, 2024.
“BPS Board Certification, at its core, is a credential that reflects the specialized practice roles and expertise of the pharmacy profession. The BPS Board of Directors plays an important part in ensuring board certification continues to serve pharmacists and patients. We look forward to Angela and Brian joining the board and sharing their time and expertise with us under the leadership of Cyrine, Gary, and Ruth.” said BPS Executive Director, William M. Ellis, MS, RPh, ICE-CCP.
The BPS Board of Directors is composed of 12 voting members, including nine pharmacists and three public members, who serve up to two three-year terms. The BPS Executive Director and one member of the APhA Board of Trustees are nonvoting ex officio Board members.
Board of Directors Officers
Cyrine-Eliana Haidar, PharmD, BCPS, BCOP, FASHP to Serve as BPS Chair
Dr. Haidar is currently Clinical Pharmacogenomics Senior Program Manager at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Assistant Professor at The University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science. She received her PharmD from the Lebanese American University, completed a Pharmacotherapy PGY1 at Hackensack University Medical Center, and Pediatric Oncology PGY2 Residency at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her practice is focused on Clinical Pharmacogenomics and its application in oncology.
She is a founding member of the Pharmacogenomics Research Network (PGRN), and the Chair of the Pharmacogenomics Subcommittee of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Previous activities include serving on the Council on Therapeutics of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and serving two terms (including Chair) on the Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Council for BPS. She is a contributing editor for pharmacogenomics of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy.
Gary C. Yee, PharmD, FCCP to Serve as BPS Chair-elect
Dr. Yee is Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He was previously a board-certified oncology pharmacist. He completed his B.S. in Pharmacy at the University of Washington, his PharmD at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, and post-doctoral training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His research findings have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. He is one of the editors of Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach. He is a Past President of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
Ruth E. Nemire, PharmD, EdD, FCCP, FNAP, CRQM to Serve as BPS Immediate Past Chair
Dr. Nemire is the Dean of Larkin University College of Pharmacy and a graduate of Ohio Northern University and the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She completed formal fellowship training in neurology with an emphasis in epilepsy at the University of Miami College of Medicine in Miami, Florida. She completed a Doctorate in Education with a major in Higher Education Leadership at the Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education. She has served as a Senior Vice President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and was the Founding Dean of the Fairleigh Dickinson School of Pharmacy. She founded ASK Education Inc., a K-12 competency-based education Company. She serves in a leadership role for the Site Accreditation and Standards Institute, Inc. She has served in leadership and faculty roles for Schools of Medicine and Colleges of Pharmacy across the United States.
Her passions, professional and research expertise include leading and innovating, neurology, technology platforms for education, K-12 education on health, quality management, clinical research, and improving public health. She has disseminated information from research outcomes Nationally and Internationally at conferences, in textbooks, peer reviewed journals and in digital media. She is co-editor of the Pharmacy Student Survival Guide. Her record of community service includes increasing immunization rates in underserved communities, disaster relief both nationally and internationally, and leadership in medical missions. Dr. Nemire is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the National Academies of Practice.
Board of Directors New Members
Angela L. Bingham, PharmD, BCPS, BCNSP, BCCCP, FASPEN, FCCP, FASHP, FCCM to Serve as Board Member Beginning January 1, 2024
Dr. Bingham is Acting Chair, Clinical Associate Professor, PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program Director, and Residency Programs Coordinator within the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, Saint Joseph’s University. She practices as a Critical Care/Nutrition Support Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Cooper University Health Care in Camden, New Jersey. After receiving her PharmD from the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, she completed a PGY1 Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center/The Regional Medical Center at Memphis.
Dr. Bingham’s practice, teaching, and research activities are focused on pharmacotherapy in critical illness including nutrition support therapy. She is a Fellow of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and Society of Critical Care Medicine. Professional contributions have included: Chair, Board of Pharmacy Specialties Specialty Council on Nutrition Support Pharmacy; Chair, ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development; Faculty, ACCP Teaching and Learning Academy Program; Chair, ASPEN Pharmacy Practice Section as well as task forces for adult critical care nutrition guideline revisions, parenteral nutrition appropriateness consensus recommendations, and standards of practice for nutrition support pharmacists. She is an Associate Editor for Nutrition in Clinical Practice and Assistant Editor for Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach.
Brian L. Erstad, PharmD, BCPS, MCCM, FCCP, FASHP, to Serve as Board Member Beginning January 1, 2024
Dr. Erstad is currently a tenured Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. He is also a Center Investigator for the Center for Health Outcomes and Pharmacoeconomics Research and a co-director for the Arizona Clinical and Translational Research Graduate Certificate Program. He was a member of the FDA’s Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2015 with subsequent service as an ad hoc committee member. He has been the program director for 25 critical care residents and fellows at the Arizona Health Sciences Center. Dr. Erstad’s research interests pertain to critical care medicine with an emphasis on patient safety and related outcomes’ research – he has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, monographs, and book chapters. Additionally, he is sole editor of the text Critical Care Pharmacotherapy and co-editor of the text Basic Skills in Interpreting Laboratory Data.
Dr. Erstad is a Past President of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and was on the Board of Directors of ASHP. He has served on numerous committees and task forces for other organizations including BPS (3 councils with 1 as chair), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), American College of Surgeons (ACS), and American Thoracic Society (ATS). With respect to teaching and clinical activities, Dr. Erstad is a recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Robert K. Chalmers Distinguished Educator Award, an AACP Innovations in Teaching Award, the ACCP Clinical Practice and Educator Awards, a Master of Critical Care Medicine designation from SCCM, and was the first pharmacist to receive SCCM’s Master Clinician/Teacher Excellence Award and ASHP’s Preceptor Award. For scholarship, Dr. Erstad was the recipient of the Award for Sustained Contributions from ASHP, and for service activities, he was the recipient of the Warren E. Weaver/Richard P. Penna Award from BPS.

The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) was established in 1976 as an autonomous division of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). The mission of BPS is to improve patient care by positioning BPS Board-Certified Pharmacist Specialists as integral members of interprofessional healthcare teams, through recognition and promotion of specialized training, knowledge, and skills for pharmacists in the United States and internationally.
