The BPS Beacon Award
The Beacon Awards are conferred annually by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties to recognize national and local patient care organizations that have made outstanding voluntary contributions to the advancement of BPS Board Certification.

AWARD CRITERIA
The Beacon Award includes two categories: National and Local Beacon Awards
National Beacon Award
- Must be a health system with multiple locations (regional or national)
Local Beacon Award
- Must be a single patient care organization or department within an organization (e.g., hospital, FQHC, clinic, pharmacy department, or service line) with a single location
For both categories, nominees should demonstrate:
- Advance healthcare quality and/or patient care through the use of specialized pharmacy training, knowledge, and skills, including BPS Board Certification
- Demonstrate sustained organizational support for board certification
- Show measurable impact on patient care, quality outcomes, and/or workforce development
- Lead efforts to promote and integrate board-certified pharmacists within practice
Professional membership associations and organizations that have contractual relationships with BPS are not eligible for this award.
NOMINATION PROCESS
The nominator is responsible for coordinating and submitting a complete nomination packet, including identifying and securing one to three additional individuals to provide letters of recommendation.

- Summary outlining the organization’s key achievements and alignment with the award criteria
- A detailed description of the organization and its relevant programs or initiatives
- One to three external letters of recommendation (secured by the nominator) addressing the organization’s impact relative to the award criteria

SELECTION PROCESS
Selection is made by the BPS Board of Directors based on review of the complete nomination packet. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
The BPS Board of Directors selects the recipient in late fall each year, with the award presented the following calendar year.
If a nominee is not selected, the nomination may be resubmitted for consideration the following year with appropriate updates.
The Board reserves the right not to issue an award in any given year.
PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD
BPS Beacon Award recipients receive an award that will be conferred at a meeting or venue determined by the BPS Board of Directors in coordination with the recipient. Travel expenses will be covered based upon current BPS travel policies as deemed appropriate by the BPS Board of Directors based upon the nature of the presentation.
In addition, BPS maintains a perpetual display at its offices recognizing all past recipients.
