BPS Transitioning to Pearson for Test Delivery Services
The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) announced a new strategic partnership with Pearson to provide test delivery services for BPS examinations beginning in January 2026. As part of this transition, BPS concluded its partnership with Prometric, the current test delivery services provider, in December 2025.
To facilitate the transition between test delivery service providers, certification applications for BPS examinations delivered by Prometric were no longer accepted after September 30, 2025. Recertification applications will continue to be received and processed. The final date to sit for an exam delivered by Prometric was December 15, 2025. To allow time to transition to the new test delivery services provider, no examinations are being administered during the transition period of December 16, 2025 through January 19, 2026.

Why is BPS changing test administration providers?
BPS is committed to delivering the highest-quality exam experience. After a comprehensive review, BPS Board of Directors and senior leadership selected Pearson.
Will my current certification examination appointment be affected?
If you have already scheduled or plan to take your examination on or before December 15, 2025, your exam experience will not be affected.
BPS will have a test administration restriction period from December 16, 2025 to January 19, 2026, during which testing sessions will be unavailable. Under no circumstances will the exam be administered from December 16, 2025 – January 19, 2026.
We encourage candidates to schedule their testing sessions as soon as possible and to schedule their testing sessions well in advance of the administration restriction period because availability can fill up quickly.
Candidates will have 200 days of eligibility to sit for the examination, which may be split before December 16, 2025, and after January 19, 2026, due to the restriction period.
Will my current recertification examination appointment be affected?
No. The deadline to sit for the recertification examination in 2025 is October 15.
Will this transition affect my ability to request an extension by exam?
No. If you are eligible, the option to request an extension by exam in 2025 will remain available. After your request is approved, you will receive your Authorization to Test (ATT) after January 19, 2026.
Will the transition impact my ability to reschedule my examination or withdrawal from the examination process?
If you have already scheduled or plan to take your examination on or before December 15, 2025, your exam experience will not be affected.
We encourage candidates to schedule their testing sessions as soon as possible and to schedule their testing sessions well in advance of the administration restriction period because availability can fill up quickly.
If an examination needs to be rescheduled, it is in the candidate’s favor to do so as soon as possible. BPS will evaluate a candidate’s ability to reschedule into 2026 on a case-by-case basis.
If a candidate needs an emergency withdrawal, BPS will evaluate the candidate’s ability to retest in 2026 on a case-by-case basis.
If a candidate is eligible to retake the examination, and their eligibility occurs during the restriction period of December 16, 2025, to January 19, 2026, they will receive the full 200-day eligibility period, in accordance with our eligibility policy. Any eligibility after December 15, 2025, will be applied beginning January 20, 2026.
Under no circumstances will BPS exams be administered from December 16, 2025 – January 19, 2026.
Will this transition affect my ability to apply for board certification?
After September 30, 2025, BPS will no longer be accepting applications for test administration in 2025 with Prometric.

When can I begin scheduling an examination with the new test administration provider?
We encourage everyone who is eligible to take their test in 2025 to do so. Candidates whose eligibility period begins in 2025 and ends in 2026 and who have not completed their exam session by December 15, 2025 will be contacted in early January on how to schedule their exam session with Pearson in 2026.
Candidates whose applications are received after January 20, 2026 will be provided an eligibility period that begins in 2026 and instructions on how to schedule their exam session with Pearson.
